Facilities in the local area

The area of Duquesa, The Marina and Manilva are well serviced with most facilities.

Shopping

Supermarkets, Grocery Stores, Fresh baked goods, Produce and meat are all available in near by Sabanillas which is a 5 min walk along the road or beach. The town is quite cheap as well luckily having avoided tourist prices.

There are a range of clothes shops selling beachware and summer clothing as well as more formal and smart casual ware. Brands like Quiksilver, Rip Curl and most of the big sports brands are widely available and for casual occassions, Levis and in some places even Diesel. Top line formal ware and smart gear is on offer in plenty in nearby Puerto Benus. The playground of the rich and famous is a 20 min car drive away.

Nightlife

There is a diverse variety of bars around the marina and also along the road in nearby Sabanillas. All age ranges are catered for from socializing joints to cabarets and DJ driven house, garage and R&B for the younger clientelle in the clubs. Most bars stay open until the last person leaves. You can see the victims of headaches staggering back in the early daylight.

For the more adventurous, Puerto Benus is an opportunity to drink, dance and star spot if you're lucky enough. Its a 20 - 30 mins car drive and should cost about €50 in a cab which is about £35 on a good week! Marbella also goes off on a night if you're up for it.

Restaurants, Cafes & Take aways

The marina hosts some great restaurants and all major styles are catered for. There are more than one choice of Chinese, Indian, Mexican and Italian all within a minutes walk of each other. If you prefer something more up market, eating at the fantastic Jemojo restaurant is a must. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is the best we've ever had in Spain.

There are a variety of cafes in the vicinity and in nearby Sabanillas. Don't confuse them with the English meaning of a cafe. They are very clean and provide a large range of fresh pastries, cereals, breakfast and pretty much whatever you fancy. You can of course get a full English or Scottish breakfast near by for the hardened Brit.

Most of the restaurants do takeaways and there is also a good pizza place just between the complex and the marina. Watch out though, the family size 16"ers are a challenge!

Car Hire

There are quite a few options available for car hire. Carjet service both nearby airports as do Holiday Autos. If you prefer a more personalised service at no extra cost, we suggest using Bruno's. Based on the arena and more than willing to meet you at the airport with your car, they provide well serviced, spotless and new vehicles.

Business Facilities

All three spanish mobile networks offer good GSM coverage of the area and offer pre pay simcards on cheap tariffs. 3G coverage is planned in the area for late 2005. Nearby Duquesa Business Centre provide computer access, faxing and photocopying. Laptop wireless access is also available. Malaga airport has ample Wifi access and Gibraltar should have soon.

Local Attractions

As well as its own beach, La Marina de la Duquesa is ideally situated for the Andalucian Coast and roundabouts.

Gibraltar is a 20 mins drive and if you've not been, you should. As well as the interesting caves, the tunnels network and the absolutely awesome apes, the entire rock is steeped in history. Its a bizarre place where most people look very Spanish but speak with...well a London accent. Take a trip up the rock, feed the apes with uncooked pasta (but don't get caught) and on the way back down, pick up a litre of Premium Blue label Stolichnaya Vodka or a quality single malt Whisky. Either sell for less than £6 in Gibraltar and cigarettes are about £8 for 200. (Limits apply). The currency is sterling.

The towns are Marbella and Puerto Benus are nearby. It is not unusual to see a famous face around there and many celebrities have holiday homes in the area. The prices can reflect this at times though. Check before you buy or order. Also worth a visit are nearby San Pedro, Estopona and Fuengirola and street markets trade on certain days of the week.

Manilva (500 metres away) has a fantastic 18 hole golf course boasting stunning views of the mountains and over to North Africa. The course, designed by Robert Trent Jones and completed in 1985 attracts semi professional golfers and a few professionals taking a holiday. Beginners and novice golfers are more than welcome and can play without membership. The location is also ideal for short distance travel to other great golf complexes.

Back on the resort, boat hire is available from the Marina with or without skipper. The local beach watersports offer pedaloes and recently have added Jetskis to the activites available. Mountain bikes can be hired nearby.

Or you could just sunbathe, beer in hand, by the pool and watch the world go by...
